Mademoiselle magazine's first issue was in 1935. The original publisher of Mademoiselle magazine was Street and Smith. Later, Mademoiselle magazine was acquired by Conde Nast Publications.

Mademoiselle is a women's magazine focused on fashion. Mademoiselle also contained short stories by famous writers of the day including Truman Capote, William Faulkner, Tennessee Williams, James Baldwin and many others.

In 1961, UCLA student and senior class president Willette Murphy was featured on the cover of the August 1961 issue of Mademoiselle making her the first African-American model to appear in a mainstream fashion magazine.

November 2001 was the final issue of Mademoiselle magazine.
