First published in June 1906, The American Magazine was a continuation of Frank Leslie's Popular Monthly. In 1915, The American Magazine began focusing on more of a female readership base. By September 1922, the cover of The American Magazine claimed it's circulation was over 1.8 million.
From 1923 until 1929, Merle Crowell was editor in chief. Then Sumner Blossom took hold of the reigns. Blossom had been the founding editor of Popular Science magazine for 27 years prior to that.
The American Magazine ceased publishing in 1956.
